Hi coral, well got home and watched the last two shows.I figure there's two ways to find gold up north. The first way is with no overhead, just you and a pan. The other way would be large scale, starting on the first day of the season with 3 or 4 of each machine, brand new. That would set you back a million or two and no telling if you'd make a profit.I can't imagine any of them ending up with 100 ounces.Guess i'll stick to weekends spent casually looking around the desert, hoping to stub my toe on that 30 lb. nugget. Did you guys ever acquire an ore crusher?

Hey coral! I'm in St. Louis right now at work. Friday was 12 degrees and snowing, today it's 50! No mining activity around here and will have to wait till i get back later this week to see the gold circus show.

Woody - Where have you been? Wrong time of the year for Alaska!! I watched the show last night. They are getting gold but do they have to be so dumb. When they saw all of that gold in the bottom of the pit why didn't they shovel that all out by hand instead of using the loader. I think it should be changed to the Whining Show!! At least they are all finding gold. Loved the big amounts they are getting the but 24 hour idea really bombed. I think they will find gold before the end of the show or they might as well quit the show. I would love to be up there! So what are you up to?? Miss your posts.

Diamond - good posting as always. Thank you for carrying on with the good work. You are such an asset and really missed on that other thread. Miss you! :)

almost out this fire is now 90% contained info per inciweb.org
Posted by diamond on 1/13/2012 11:38:47 AM
per inciweb.org this fire is 20% contained..( why this is taking so long to fully contain.. is due to very steep terrain for ffs to get in and turn the ground over and put out any hot spots.and the winds are a major factor too)
Posted by diamond on 1/13/2012 10:35:01 AM
update per wlf.. fire is holding at 9 ac with still the potential to spot.. (spot fires ) heavy mop up going on
Posted by diamond on 1/13/2012 7:13:39 AM
rim alerts * thanks ( has this fire running about 20-30 ac with is indeed possible due to the steep terrain that fire fighters are having to deal with.. no containment at this time due to this and the strong winds.. air craft may be on it this morning if they can fly..still spot fires flaring
Posted by diamond on 1/13/2012 6:26:47 AM
per chp log folks are trying to get thru the closure of hwy 138 x 40th street so all the side roads petaining to that area will be shut down by chp .. as fire fighters are still working on this fire and equiptment is still in the roadway

per chp log the main fire is out but there are still spot fires flaring up.. long term closures for now for areas hwy 18 x cliff hanger/hwy 138 x crest forest drive /hwy 138 x 40th street

Hi, Woody- I just watched the first half of Gold Rush. Pitiful! All about the story behind the story! But they do say that next week will be all new of the series so I guess they will get back to looking for gold. I will watch one more week and then I don't think I can take any more!! Such a bunch of cry babies.
I grew up in a logging town so trains were a part of my life. Every morning and every night a train went past our house on the other side of the road and when we were kids we always went out and waved. The engineer would wave and blast the horn. We also walked the tracks to town and knew the schedule of the trains. The big one was crossing the tracks over the river. It was long and scary for kids (our parents never knew we did this) but the fuuny thing was that the trains never ran on the weekends and that is when we usually used the tressle. We walked to get to the Community Hall at the Mill so we could roller skate, watch a movie or use play around. Always lots of activities there. Lots of my friends lived in mill housing but we never did and had a small farm but my Dad was a Millwright for Weyerhauser.
Days gone by!

hi coral! check out this site when you get a chance -http://nevada-outback-gems.com/prospect/gold_specimen/Silver_ores.html
Posted by woody on 12/26/2011 4:52:27 PM
I liked it also. Everytime i see a loader bucket full of the dirt they have i want to go there because it just looks so promising. Do i recall that you like trains? (Who Doesn't?) Been spending some time on that BNSF site.
Posted by coral on 12/26/2011 2:13:37 PM
And all the best to you too, Woody! And may next year bring lots and lots of gold. Pat could use the train crossing sounds to hear his phone! But I finally found just a loud ringer that seems to work for him.
BTW- We watched the Friday nite show and it was one of the best this year. It was mostly about the crew of camera people and producers of the show. They were more real than what we have been seeing.
Posted by woody on 12/26/2011 1:01:14 PM
Best holiday wishes coral and anyone else out there? I used the link below to make the ringer on my phone sound like a train crossing gate which i'm very pleased with.

Well i have to say i'm impressed by the new processing/separating machines. Still not close to 70 ounces but maybe if they shut up and work they'll get it....
Posted by woody on 12/10/2011 8:57:55 PM
coral-Just saw the show, agree about the waste of time because,NOTHING HAPPENED. One whole hour and noone did anything....Thankful for the dvr so i can at least fast-forward through commercials. The dirt up there looks so good i really need to go there. Seems if them guys would just pan 12 hours a day they'd have a pile already. And what's with all the Foreign made heavy equipment? That really sticks in my craw, i'd rather have an old Caterpillar than a shiny new Komatsu...
Posted by coral on 12/9/2011 9:16:04 PM
I watched it Woody. What a waste of time. Sunday you can see both segments but it starts early. Like around 5 pm. They all are excited about what they are doing but I am not sure if any of it is going to get them gold. Get the pan out and start panning! :)
Posted by coral on 12/9/2011 9:45:07 AM
Woody- If I remember maybe we can watch the show tonight. It has become the show of good laughs for us. we will be going to Arrowhead in the morning as we have a Holiday/Christmas party to attend. Plus my son had part of his ring finger on right hand torn off and today they are fixing it. Like cutting more and sewing it up. Long story. Anyway, I am anxious to see him. Talk to you soon.
Posted by woody on 12/3/2011 1:59:54 PM
coral-I dvr'ed it last night so will watch later i guess. Don't know why they choose to put all the personal drama in? If i produced such a show it would all be work, probably just a camera on the wash plant the whole time. This wind has been something. I read your post about big winds last week and the silly responses- HA! durn flatlanders on rotw anymore...I guess that show is probably 10 episodes or so, we'll see.
Posted by coral on 12/3/2011 12:00:08 PM
Woody- this show is getting so boring and sloooow! Why bring in the girlfriend?? For some stupid reason I am hooked on watching it. I like to see all of their methods and equipment. Seems like when they have nothing to do they should all be down at the creek panning. They waste so much time. Now I realize this is a reality show and a dang poor one to boot but I expect more. How many weeks does this last. I don't recall ever seeing or hearing that?

Cold and windy in YV. I guess just like everywhere else but not as cold as in the mountains.
Posted by woody on 11/26/2011 4:50:09 PM
You're right about that, i would like to be up in that area to just grab a pan and shovel and go off by myself. I bet i could get as much as they seem to be getting with their crappy machines. Looks like folks went in there 100 years ago with some great giant machinery and got most of the easy stuff. Really the only character with any sense seems to be the old man at the Big Nugget Mine.
Posted by coral on 11/26/2011 10:00:50 AM
Woody, we watched the latest idiot show. Don't really know why but it just seems compelling. A disaster around every corner but and I get tired of going back and forth between the three places. The Dakota guy isn't as sharp as he made himself out to be. How many weeks does this thing last anyway? Not sure I can handle much more. But it does sort of make you want to be there yourself and be digging for gold.
So far no bears, cougars or anything else to get them scared. I don't think the producers have done a very good job.

Good to hear from you, diamond! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving. I went shopping yesterday. Really not that many people out. I kept hearing mother's day to their kids that "we can't afford that" and it sounded like there was a lot of that. The busiest place at Walmart was the TV and electronic stuff. Big screen! Today I have things to do around home so will just stay inside in the cool dry weather! :)
Posted by diamond on 11/24/2011 9:14:58 PM
hey there. things are ok over here thanks.. mother has good days and bad with her parkinsons diease as she is unsteady alot and this is where i come in to help her balance but i dont mind.. i miss the dry cold compared to the wet cold we have down here is the pits.. usually when its 65 degrees up there its comfortable but now down here its down right cold.. that wet cold thing.. other wise doing ok.. havent been on scanner very much only when its windy or weather is heading in up there..

Hi, Diamond. How are things goning? I hope you are having a lovely Thanksgiving.
Woody- We watched part of the show and never got to see the rest. I forgot on Sunday for the rerun. Pat laughed at the dozer operator who didn't know what he was doing. I will try to remember to watch tomorrow night. It is on so early that it is easy to forget. What a mess they are all in. Pat hasn't been out at all this year. Not sure what his plans are right now. Other things to do! Cold out here but some sunny days are not too bad. Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey coral. Last week was funny, the problems with the ice! What dummies, sliding around, digging in the wrong places!Well, i got maybe 1/4 oz. this year, which is okay, considering all the great places i got to go hunting.

Hi, Woody! I am shutting down but decided to check this site out. Glad I did. 70 oz would be pretty nice but that barely pays for the costs and no mention of the cut fo the guys working with them. I watched it Friday and again tonight I watched part of it. Bit and pieces are interesting but the characters are all crazy. The best one is the kid who got all the gold this week. I forget how much but I would love to see a pan that full. We will be going out one of these days. Right now we have other things to do that need out attention. We have only been down here in YV for a couple of weeks now. Still unpacking.....

Hey coral, had some time to kill today so i was reading what this person wrote about gold. You know, the "holcome minds" person. 10 year old? So the Alaska folks are back on,show seems a bit better this year, one thing struck me,they need 70 ounces this year to break even.If i take all i've ever found in the last 40 years and add it to all i ever will find i doubt it will add up to 7 ounces, and i know where to look!

i don`t know girl but that one caught me..i don`t like to fly anyway. i had my fill back in the 70s flying back and forth to florida with a storm no thanks.. i really thought we were going to crash it was that bad.. ill stay with 4 wheels or hoof
Posted by coral on 10/31/2011 4:40:56 PM
Let them have all the snow back there. Don't want it here for a while yet. We have to have FALL here first. I am just now enjoying that!!

BTW- no way will they keep in locked up in a plane that long. I have become so claustrobic that I don't even like to fly without meds and a few drinks!! By 8 hours I would be breaking out the windows and trying to get to the crew! Man alive, how do they expect people to manage all that time?

morning all coral i saw this and thought of you ,, the massive snow storm near New Jers(CNN) -- Airline passengers left stranded by a freak snowstorm that pounded the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states were waiting to get to their destinations Sunday, many after spending a restless night on cots or airport floors.

"Whatever kind of system they had, it completely and utterly broke down," said passenger Fatimah Dahandari, who spent a night in Hartford, Connecticut's Bradley International Airport while trying to get to New York. "It looks like a refugee camp in here."

She said her Boston-to-New York flight diverted to Connecticut after being told there was a problem on a runway at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport and the JetBlue plane did not have enough fuel to continue circling.

"We land in Connecticut and then it was one series of problems after another," she said. Her flight spent nine hours "literally sitting on the runway" with no food and water, she said. Passengers were told the plane was waiting to refuel, then was waiting for a gate, then had to get behind another plane that had an emergency on board, she said.

By the time it was her plane's turn, the plane was snowed in and could not move, she said, so there was another wait to get a truck to tow it to the gate. Once she got into the airport, Dahandari said everything was closed, providing passengers with no food options. They were told that the hotels were booked, she said, and if they left the airport they could not come back in.

She spent a night on the floor, and Sunday morning was standing in line with hundreds of others, hoping to receive a boarding pass and a spot on board a flight.

Cell service inside the airport was spotty, she said, and "everybody's phones are dying. People are trading chargers and laptops."

Overall, she said, passengers have been calm. "I keep waiting for somebody to freak out, but nobody is." She said people were being courteous to airline employees, despite their irritation, as "they're kind of stuck here too."

The fashion consultant had hoped to attend two private Halloween parties in New York Saturday night that were important to her business, and planned to wear a $400 custom-made costume.

"Not only is this the worst traveling experience I've ever had, it's also the worst Halloween I've ever had," she said.

JetBlue spokeswoman Victoria Lucia said in a statement Sunday that 17 flights were diverted on Saturday "due to a confluence of events, including infrastructure issues in New York/JFK and Newark (New Jersey)." Six of those flights were diverted to Hartford, the statement said.

"We worked with the airport to secure services, including remote deplaning and (lavatory) servicing," Lucia said. "Obviously, we would have preferred deplaning much sooner than we did, but our flights were six of the 23 reported diversions into Hartford, including international flights."

In addition, Bradley Airport "experienced intermittent power outages, which made refueling and jetbridge deplaning difficult," she said. "We apologize to the customers impacted by this confluence of events, as it remains JetBlue's responsibility to not simply provide safe and secure travel, but a comfortable experience as well."

The airline said on its web site that it was waiving change or cancel fees, along with fare differences, for travelers in a handful of airports -- Hartford; Newark; Newburgh, New York; New York from JFK or LaGuardia airports; and Westchester County, New York.

Passenger Mara Dhaerman was also stranded in Hartford and said her JetBlue flight, initially from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Newark, New Jersey, spent nine hours on the tarmac in Connecticut. Passengers were told the plane was refueling, then de-icing, and that it was going to try to get back to Newark, but eventually a stairway was brought in and firefighters and troopers helped passengers deboard. She said she received a cot to sleep on about 1 a.m. Sunday.

"It's just very annoying," she said.

CNN's Richard Roth was among those stranded in Hartford. "It's been a tough night for everyone," he said Sunday.

The storm prompted the closure of New Jersey's Newark International Aiport. Also in New Jersey, Teterboro Airport closed Saturday afternoon but reopened hours later, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The FAA also reported major delays of up to 5 hours or more at New York's John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia airports on Saturday.

As of 10 a.m. Sunday, the FAA was reporting no delays.

The storm is expected to make its exit from the Northeast by Sunday afternoon, after knocking out power to more than 2.5 million people in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Massachusetts.

Other forms of travel were also impacted. CNN affiliate WCVB in Boston reported that hundreds of passengers on an Amtrak train from Rochester, New York, to Boston were stranded on the track near Palmer, Massachusetts, for 14 hours. Passenger Gail Settles told the station that Amtrak fed the passengers as they waited for buses to take them the rest of the way to Boston. Most passengers were able to sleep, she said, and were warm and had electricity.

"It's like a blizzard -- you can't see far at all," Alban Ajro of Watertown, Connecticut, said Saturday night. "This is the first time that I can ever recall this kind of storm happening before Halloween."

The early onslaught meant heaps of wet snow fell on trees still heavy with leaves -- adding to the risk of falling branches and downed power lines.

At least three deaths are linked to the unusual October snowstorm.

An 84-year-old man was napping on his recliner in Temple, Pennsylvania, on Saturday when a part of a large, snow-filled tree fell into his house and killed him, according to a state police report. With numerous downed trees in the area, rescue crews took two hours to safely remove the victim, police said.

A motorist died in Hebron, Connecticut, state emergency spokesman Scott Devico said.

A third person was killed in Springfield, Massachusetts, when a man in his 20s ignored police barricades surrounding downed power lines and touched a metal guard rail, which was charged, said city fire department spokesman Dennis Legere.

Snow buried parts of New Jersey and New York on Saturday, including 15.5 inches in West Milford, New Jersey, and 12 inches in Harriman, New York. Cities in West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland saw more than 9 inches of snow in less than one day.

iReport: Winter weather near you

Lauren Tracy of Brooklyn, New York, described the scene around her as "blinding white."

"Snow was coating everything. However, it was a very wet snow -- puddles of slush were everywhere," she said.

But the storm did little to deter Occupy Wall Street protesters, who camped out in tents coated with a layer of snow in New York's Zuccotti Park.

A day earlier, dozens of firefighters removed the group's propane tanks and six generators, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said, citing fire hazards. That left the demonstrators to battle the cold weather seeping through their tents, blankets and sleeping bags.

"Occupy" demonstrators face bite of wintry storm

The governors of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts issued emergency declarations for their states.

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said Saturday evening that 50,000 to 70,000 customers were losing power every hour. Malloy said power crews were not yet on the roads and wouldn't return until road conditions improve markedly.

"If you are without power, you should expect to be without power for a prolonged period of time," he said.

On Sunday morning, the state's largest utility -- Connecticut Light and Power -- reported nearly 770,000 customers without electricity.

Elsewhere, about 784,000 customers were without power Sunday in New Jersey, along more than 410,000 in New York, according to figures from power companies in those states. An additional 411,000 were without power in Pennsylvania, along with more than 350,000 in Massachusetts. Thousands also lost power in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.ery ..

Woody- he has a lot of ideas and IS thinking small. :) The last I heard was a jack hammer with something round welded to the bit? And pouring a concrete bowl to work in. Now he has other ideas but that is the only one I remember. He like to do stuff like this. He made his own dry washer and finally went out and bought one! haha His was okay but for that really fine gold he found he was losing too much. The guy next door bought one that uses centrifical force and I think we paid for half of it (if not more) but the problem is that we have never used it. Another lesson learned in life. He wanted Pat to file a claim and he almost did until he realized he would come out on the short end AGAIN! But he has learned so much from the guy and we both really like him. So it has not been a total loss. For some reason the gold out there is not found in quartz (or rarely) but mostly found near iron.

Did I tell you they just opened up the Old Iron Age Mine? Someone went by there at night and said it was all lit up. They are hiring.
We are thinking that maybe we can sell a house or two if they really get going.
Posted by woody on 10/22/2011 6:24:03 PM
Hey coral,I don't get on the computer to write much either. But have enjoyed hearing of your (Pats) mining exploits over the years.I will check with my Oatman friends and see if they have any ore crusher advice. They have a few of them out at the site but they are massive 1800's machines. Making one at home sounds like a fun project.I think i would start with a punch press and make some kind of basket on it to hold my ore.Would work well for small amounts and you can probably get a used one for a reasonable price.

Sorry, Woody, I just am not online too much lately. We are starting to get things ready to move to the desert for the winter. I hate this moving back and forth!! Seems like we have to take so much stuff. I do the taxes down there so have to make sure I get everything I need from here. Plus important papers that we may or may not need. Pat is getting anxious to get out and do some prospecting. He is looking at getting a crusher. A small one, I hope! Or he is thinking about how to make his own.

I think the Japanese were at or near the Dixie Mine. Pat has never found it either but we expect that it is just hidden from the main road. We saw the Dixie Mine on a map but he didn't find that either.

My nephew lives in Goldsboro, NC. He works for Fish and Game. He is not good at posting on his facebook but I can always ask his gf and see what she knows. But I wondered if the name of the town means anything like a lot of gold found there??? I knew it had been a gold area in the past but never hear anything current.

Hi coral,So i toured this place,http://www.reedmine.com/, from hiking the surrounding area it just doesn't look like any gold area i've ever seen.Mostly hardwood forest and granite rock.Didn't see any rocks worth picking up, but the story is some kid found a huge nugget here.
